Courtney Pate, M.Ed, MSW, LCSW-A
Courtney Pate, LCSW-A is a 2025 graduate of the Joint MSW program at UNCG/NCA&T and currently a PhD student at UNCG/NCA&T with a research focus on neurodiversity within adult populations. Courtney holds an undergraduate degree in Psychology from George Mason University and a M.Ed. in Learning and Behavioral Disorders from the University of Lynchburg. Courtney is a former Exceptional Children’s teacher and school administrator, and has extensive experience supporting individuals with ADHD, ASD, IDD, and various learning and behavioral challenges.
Through her MSW program, Courtney worked within Alamance County Child Protective Services, Assessments Division (2023-2024), providing support to school-aged children and their families. In 2024-2025, Courtney served as a therapist trainee specializing in neurodiversity within BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and other marginalized population groups at the UNCG Counseling and Psychological Services Department.Courtney is from Lynchburg, VA, but has lived in Burlington for morth than 25 years. Courtney enjoys thrifting with her family and playing with her pets. Some of Courtney’s favorite things include pizza, chocolate, and a crispy Diet Coke! Courtney is an avid potter with a full pottery studio in her home!

I identify as a Neurodiverse individual and have firsthand experience navigating the complexities of existing in a Neurotypical world. Professionally, I have extensive experience working with individuals experiencing all types of neurodiversity- it is my goal to work with your neurodiversity, not find ways to suppress it. As an OCD and Neurodiversity Expert, I have the experience and expertise to understand the different ways Neurodiversity can show up and how the different forms can interact. Everyone’s experience is unique, and I can help you understand which areas could use additional support, while we tailor treatment that honors all the parts of you!
I completely understand that talking about sexual obsessions is uncomfortable, especially when they involve themes that feel taboo or distressing! Please know that you are not alone. Sexual and intrusive thoughts are a very common part of OCD, and I have worked with people who experience them, including those feelings that are very confusing and upsetting.
My role is to offer a space that is nonjudgmental and safe. You won’t shock me, and I won’t look at you differently. I know how painful these thoughts can be and I know how much courage it takes to speak to them out loud! If you’re ready to share, I am here to support you with the care and compassion that you deserve.
I enjoy working with clients of all ages! I have extensive experience working with children, adolescents, college students, young adults and adults. I understand that each age group provides its own unique challenges and opportunities for growth. It is my goal to help you feel supported and understood when navigating each stage, in a way that aligns with your goals and values.
